Does anyone here use serial ATA?

If so, answer me this...

I bought a serial ATA hard drive for the computer that I am building. On the back of the drive, there is two power slots. There is the traditional 4-pin molex and then there is a serial ATA power adapter right next to the serial ata data port.

My question is, does a serial ATA hard drive need both power sources, or does it need one or the other?

I have a SATA western digital drive and it only has the SATA power connector. Seagate must be trying to help people who dont have SATA power supply connectors on their power supplies and/or dont have a converter plug from 4 pin molex to SATA power.

You should not need power to both interfaces and I would think that if you did put power to both that it would be very very very bad.

No documentation from Seagate on the drive telling you how to do things?

Just took a read at Western Digitals site on the 160gb drive, one of the features of the drive is "flexpower" - connector technology that accepts power from both industry standard and new SATA power supplies.

Just use one of the two power options but not both.

I just set up a pair of Seagate 120GB drives in Raid 0 configuration. Used the new style power cord and the serial connector for both.
