10MPH is actualy fast. Try to run head first into a wall at 10MPH and see how it feels.

yes, it hurt. but when cars come with "10mph bumpers" or whatever, id expect the bumper messed up, but not the grill broken off, radiator bent in half, and the the hood torqued enough i had to get a new one.

From some of the pictures it looks like the deer could have possibly gored the driver with its antlers. Not sure though...

They are actually equiped with "8 mph" bumpers. Not sure how big a diff 2 mph makes. I know at "8 mph" my front end would be gone

I may be totally wrong, but my understanding for the speed rating of an automobile bumper has to do with the dissapation of energy for the entire bumper. i.e. a 10mph bumper would dissipate 10mph of energy across its entire face (like bumping a wall or another car's bumper). Hitting a post or other "focused" impact could easily do damage beyond the rating of the bumper. (Heck, a good swift kick will damage most bumpers, but you can match bumpers and push one car with another.)

Back on topic...
When I was dating the now Mrs. gindapoo, I hit eight deer over the years we dated in high school and college. (Never one quite that dramatic however.) Then I started killing them with a rifle and haven't hit one with a car since.
