Okay, I need some input - Ive modeled a Colt M16A4 (similar to other models except the racks on top are easier to use) I just need to know if the gun looks like it should - its 2031 pollies in total (HL2 has a 2500 polly limit). The Blowappart image on colt's website helped but I dont know if its still exact (the blowup only showed one side of the gun - the right).
Thanks for any input.

actually, from what I remember being told about the A4, is that it has a rail system like the M4, which facilitates the addition or removal of all types of neat gadgetry. this includes the iron sights, they are removeable as well. I will see if I can find a pic that does it justice.
[edit] Ok, here's a pic showing the other side. Take note that under the iron sights there are two knobs, these are for removing the aforementioned sights. Unfortunately, It does not appear to have the rails, as I had been told it would, so the grips are correct as you have them, just note that there are rings on the grips to aid in, well, gripping. They run vertically, if the rifle is at the horizontal. Anywho, here's the pic:

[edit2] Here's a pic of the A4 with the M203 grenade launcher attached.

Bleh, I dont mind if people call me a nerd just because I do this stuff... I get taught it in school anyway - good old commtech the only course I pay attention in ....
Anyways, I was working like crazy last night - I added a lot of stuff including the rail system (though that was before Az's comment but I already knew cuz I remembered I forgot to finish the left hand side ).
An updated pic is below, a M-203 and a Scope will be added later on. MAX never does my models justice when it renders them - I have no flagshade options so you cant really see any grooves or any such thing.
EDIT: stupid image wont link properly .

now correct me if im wrong but i thought they were getting rid of the m16a4 for military use. i thought they were gonna start using the m4a1. its my belief that they are doing this because the m16 is so big and bulky, and it isnt full auto. it just has semi and burst. i know they had a few problems in iraq where a humvee got ambushed and the guns were to big to move around quick enough and shoot out of the windows. _________________

the army has been going with the m-4 for some time now. The problem is that it isn't as accurate as the m-16 at distances over 300 yards. This is why the Marines chose the A4 over the M-4, however, they will issue, and already do, the M-4 to their urban assault and special forces teams. The M-4 does not have full auto either. The reason for this is simply ammo conservation. The tendency among troops is to hold the trigger down if they have the capability. With burst, you have to pull over and over, allowing the gun to cool somewhat, as well as taking longer to go through a magazine.
The army went with the M-4 because the historical trend during war has been towards a more urban environment, where distances over 300 yards are not the norm, therefore should not be a deciding factor in armament.
Now Jack, most of our vehicles over there were protected by some type of MG. mine was a 240G 7.62mm mg. it sits on a rotating post in the bed. even though the m-16 is larger than the M-4, shooting either of them from inside a moving vehicle is a nigh ridiculous task. It's difficult to get your body into position behind either of them, but windows do help to steady the weapons. A friend of mine even managed to shoot his M-16 while driving, so I know it's possible. We simply took off our useless doors (they were made of canvas), and that enabled a more advantageous shooting position for us, and we had M-4s, except for me. I had an M-4 and a 240G . Happiness can be found in lots of personal protective devices.
I hope I have explained things clearly.
P.S. Jack, the rifle you are probably thinking of is the Colt CAR-15, or just carbine. Those ones get issued to Delta guys and SEALs, and it has full auto. It also has a somewhat shorter barrel than the M-4 I think, but I'm not too sure, it's been awhile since I've seen one. _________________ Under construction!!! |

ahh i see, thanks for clearing that up Az.
just one more question though. Why in most video games is an m-4 fully automatic? I dont understand that. _________________

usually it's because their technical advisors suck, or they just want a fully auto m-4. If it's the first one, they are probably confusing it with the Carbine, they look alot alike. One big difference, beside the full auto, is the barrel length, the other difference is tha flash suppressor, the carbine's does not look the same as the M-4 or the m-16's. _________________ Under construction!!! |
