and i sometimes wonder y im going in the coast guard, this definetely seals the deal...i was almost wavering to go with safeway...currently my job till im elegiable for the CG again after mono...as most/some/a few of you know safeway emplyoyees have been on strike in Cal. reason is safeway is trying to pay minimum..and get rid of all benifits...i.e. insurance and get this....retirement benifits...this means not just people who havent retired yet....but people who have already retired...will lose there retirement...but yes...safeway is trying to get rid of us "overpaid" workers...yes my 9.35/hr job wrapping and packing meat is overpaid...im rolling in the g's....while mr ceo has what...a billion....so ya...anyhoo...all those stores in Cal. that were on strike...are no longer on strike...wonder y....safeway shut them down...there fore firing every single person in Cal. who works for safeway... GOOD JOB!!!!

Yeah, my aunt is one of those people in Cali striking. She's a cake decorator down near palm springs. Funny thing is that she makes double what safeway pays her just working out of her home, but she always liked working around other people, so she still works there, or did, till this strike thingamajigger.

That really is a load of crap $10.00 an hour doesn't go far in CA.Minimum wage is a joke.They wonder why crime rates are high in CA ummm duh

Are you saying that Safeway is no longer in Calif?? They just closed all of their stores due to the strike??

Vons sucks they were always high in price and we never shopped there.
Here in commiefornia the big 3 grocery stores are not competing but are in league together. They keep prices artificaly high and of course they have a universal labor aggreement. They are crooks to me.
They are still walking the picket line here. The teamsters have joined in. but we have access to cheap labor here along with truck drivers. It would seem to me that the teamsters have a good chance of losing there trucking jobs.
This looks to be a defining time in labor here.
Maybe groceries will come down in price...oh wait the companys are corupt! damn

And on another not.....Safeway in Canada has done the same thing for a long time now....they have tried to punt those they initially hired way back when at a decent wage to replace them with all part-time 6.00/hr (US funds roughly 4) no benefits, no bonuses etc......DO NOT SHOP THERE...thats all you can do to protest.....and with the prices there, I dont know why anybody shops there.....examples antipasto safeway 12.00, antipasto Superstore 6.99, boneless chicken safeway $17Kg boneless chicken superstore $8.99Kg......etc etc....
