I got steam working with no problem and I love it. New menu/interface and cleaner graphics. Try it before you say bad stuff about it. _________________ Usually my sig goes here, but who the hell needs one anyways. |

I'm not going to be able to download and If I ver did manage to put a week aside to download it on a 56k, I'm not going to be able to play it because my computer is now too old.
Also, I know that I'm not the only one in this position so, Mulisha, valve/steam can go and itself _________________ Death smiles at everyone, All a man can do is smile back. |

Valve really messed up with this one. No bandwidth, no mirrors, huge files, should have just made a normal patch. _________________ I need to make a sig, but I don't have the time. Maybe I will eventually. |

Even for those of us with fast connections this is a real problem:
My downstream might be good, unless they are coming up with
the bandwidth to serve a thousands of people that want at least
good bitrates all at once, I might as well be another 56ker. _________________

that was the sound of 1000 knees jerking at the same time Steam is suffering from a bad case of inertia. It's really hard to go from 0 to 50,000 at the snap of a finger. But, hopefully once the system has stablized and Valve signs up more content providers, the end users will start to see some benefits. If we don't see improvement in the next few weeks, then I'd say your concerns would be justified.
plus, have you ever seen a Half-Life update that didn't set off massive petitions and "I'm quiting" notices?? _________________ ctnstone.com |

The content providers hosting steam right now are making NO money. When HL2 is released online content providers will see a percentage of the revenue, at that point larger retail groups (amazon, virgin, buy.com, Walmart??) will become content providers. All of the problems people are complaining about are bandwith related. _________________ All comments are not nessasary those of the author so should not be taken as so.

It is rumored that an offline version of LAN mode is in the works. Currently, each computer on the LAN must be connected to the Internet. Of course, that's not always very practacal for a LAN setup. The Ops in #steam seem to think there will be a patch or workaround in the coming weeks. If Valve isn't planning a patch, then I agree, it's a pretty serious issue. _________________ ctnstone.com |

Here is a conversation that says all I think I need to say:
You {lsort}, "It finally ran."
You {idle}, "It downloaded all the files for DoD that I already have."
You {center}, "Yet it claimed it would use the existing files."
Beet googles, "That's dumb."
You {not}, "Then, I attempt to join a server."
You {select}, "HL.EXE starts."
You {lt}, "I see a 640x480 splash screen with artwork depicting two allied soldiers in combat."
You {lrand}, "Nothing else."
You {tzoffset}, "No console."
You {lsort}, "No menus."
You {links}, "No gameplay."
You {isnum}, "Pressed every key on the keyboard, and as many combinations as I could think of."
Beet googles, "Hahahaha."
You {owner}, "Until I got bored, pressed the MAGIC combination, raised task manager, and killed it." |

Since their program isn't smart enough to install itself correctly what files need to be moved where? _________________
