lol seele. you cant phase my gibson sg, or my two fender strats, or my fender 12 string.

see i go to school with seele. hes a bum. j/k. seele, you have to come over and jam one time. its a lot of fun. what amp are you running the sg through? i run mine through a marshall 212. Sg's are indestructable. ive tuned mine down to c flat before and it still sounds good.

i think thats normal. my friend has a gibson les paul custom and when he uses his distortion pedal it rings without doing anything.

oh yeah: guitar distortion + bass guitar = teh sux (but its fun to mess around with)

yeah that hum is normal. i use my standard amp distortion and it sounds great.

i will explain the hum:

when you run distortion at its most basic form it cuts off the high and low frequencies in different order at a fast rate. this gives you that choppy distortion sound that we all love. when you arent playing anything the amp has to do something with that little bit of extra power that it uses to chop it so it comes out as a solid electrical hum that you hear. higher end amps wont do this but a lower to mid level amp will. built in distortion doesnt have that sound as much as if you use an aftermaket pedal such as a dod pedal or a boss pedal.

no biggy

jack

*edit* oh yeah. one thing you could try to do is turn down the gain a little bit. i never play my distortion with the gain all the way up. i suggest playing with the gain till you get the distortion you want with as little hum as you can.

I r play teh bass guitar for 11 years now

My first bass was the infamous Sears brand "Harmony" bass. It was like carrying a tree trunk around. I turned it into a fretless when I got bored with it. A bass that difficult to play made it easy to play any other one after that.

My second one was the Ibanez Silver Series Jazz Bass with a dual pickup.

The Ibanez' Urban Legend (or so I was told about it's origins when I got it back in 1996.) I got the bass (for a couple a hundred "used") from the guitarist in a band I was in with. He became an intern at Chicago Trax Studios on Chicago's near north side. He said that bass was there from one the of the engineers.

1996 was a time when the tail end of Grunge was happening and Nu-Metal was a year or so away. So Chicago artist/bands like The Smashing Pumpkins, Stabbing Westward, Urge Overkill, and Liz Phair were still popular.

I get the bass and it rocked. It was a nice sound, easy to play, and a pretty decent look. A week later the guitarist in the band we were in asks for me if I want to get a refund on it. I asked "why?" He says "The engineer who sold it was in deep shit because he sold Liz Phair's bass thinking she'd never come back for it." It was sitting there for a couple of months. She naturally came back a few days after I got it. The guitarist said it's my call. I said "What Ibanez? I don't see an Ibanez here." So that's the urban legend of my Ibanez Bass...allegedly Liz Phair's at one time.

cant you just pop them out with a flat and/or sharp piece of metal i.e. a small flat head screw driver?

Sorry man, but you just can't do that. Your neck would have to be basically shaved down or your fret holes filled. If not, you would end up with holes where your frets were. I would seriously recommend not doing that on your own. You'll trash your bass even if it is a squire. That's a job for a pro and it will cost a lot of money I guarantee you.

Meh play,

ESP LTD KH-202 Kirk Hammet Signature w/ Floyd Rose & EMG's
'93 Fender Strat Squire w/ 3 EMG single coils
BC Rich Ironbird with Floyd Rose tremelo

My rig. . Sovtek MIG 100 all tube lead amplifier with 4 Mesa Boogie groove tubes pushing a Crate half stack w/ four 12 inch Celestions. I need to get the bias checked on my new tubes though, they are just a bit too "tinny" for my taste.

Pedals. . Dime Cry Wah from Hell, DOD Milk Box Compressor, DOD Death Metal Distortion, Boss DD6 Digital Delay, Steve Vai Little Alligator volume pedal. I prefer stomp pedals over rack mounted systems. The Line6 stuff is cool but I just think those all in 1 units do not have the raw feeling you get from separate stomp boxes.

I do love Gibson SG's Seele! They just plain rock and it's hard to beat their raw crunch even with pedals. I would really like to get the '61 reissue but I can't even afford it. Check it out! http://img2.musiciansfriend.com/dbase/pics/products/51/517210.jpg

. .drooooool. . . Congrats on the new guitfiddle mang.

nice setup KRG. Very nice. MMMMMMM Mesa.

Yeah Turbo! the only way you could turn your base into a fretless is to buy a fretless neck and put it on.
