For some reason, I do not have a spray option in my controls menu.
How the heck do I spray eh?

hmm well now..
i think the command to spray is lsike impulse_201 or something liekt hat, i tihnk someone will know and reply to this... as for custom spray, you need a WAD converter...

I have made tons of custom sprays, I just didn't see a spray option in DOD.
I'll try the impulse thingy.

put the wad of you decal in the DoD folder, named pldecal.wad, and the impluse 201 should spray it

And just how do you do this  Very basic elementary steps please cause computers and myself do NOT relate.

Most servers in DoD have Spray off in the server's config. This is done to help player's because the use of sprays tends to suck up client and server side resources.
However, using Sprays can be real cool if people's comupters and connections can handle it.

Here's one good spray utility - ES Spray2 Their Spray program is well worth getting if you're into using sprays a lot. (their site is down for a few more days, due to a death)

I don't think that's a good idea for a few reasons:
1. Racist sprays. People out there have racist, homophobic sprays, which is the very same as vocalizing racism or homophobia with chat. The only problem is, you can't track down the asshole who has: "Burn all the jews," with a picture of Hitler on it. Or the porn sprays. That would be one more thing for an admin to look out for.
2. Lag. Everytime you join the server and you don't have the custom spray that other people have, you're going to be stuck downloading it, whether you want to or not. You could always shut that option off on your end of it, but you will never see others' sprays.
3. Sucks up hard drive space and slows connection between maps. The size of your custom.hpk file, which is where all your downloaded custom sprays go can become HUGE. And that has to load everytime you log on or switch maps. |
Technically speaking, reasons #2 and #3 tend to make a fair bit of sense, and that's the reason why most DoD servers have Spray off by default from the server side. Also, the "realism" angle of DoD - it kind of ruins the mood of WW2 if there's a bunch of sprays that don't have anything to do with that historical era.

I use Wally to make color sprays, there are other programs that do the job, though. The rules for sprays are:
1) Must have the width and height divisible by 16
2) The width times the height has to be less than 10752
3) Must be bmp images
If you follow those rules, making custon sprays will be easy.
