Ok, i hate to start a new thread with just one question, but oh well. Are the AMD dual Core Processors worth it? should i buy a Mobo that can support them so i can upgrade to it later? (i.e. looking at a AMD 64 3000+ for starters). IF the X2's arent going to help me much in my gaming, then I'd rather not spend the $$$. I could save $350 by NOT going with the new dual core processors.

Reason i'm asking is, i'm currently shopping and building a rig on New Egg (wish list).! So if anyone has an suggestions, i'm listening.

oh, one more: Is setting up TWO hard drives in a 0 RAID going to help my overall performance in gaming compared to just ONE big hard drive?

oh, another one: SLI? what do you think? worth it?

I've been researching and learning all about PC's for almost a year now, and with all the new technology, i cannot keep up with it. HELP ME! #Crazy

do whatever you can to make it at upgradable as possible. this means gettign a mobo that can support the newer chips but possibly not going all out right now, just gettign a good one.

the better the mobo is now the easier it'll be later ( if only i had the money to make my new computer)

as far as sli i think its a good idea. jsut get nest to the best card you can now. and with the 7800's out now the 6800 models are all dropping. that way later you can upgrade by buying another of the same card. instead of buying a spanking new one. at least to me this makes sense....

and as far as the HD's go. "they" say that "you" have the right "idea" but i'm not entirely sure. if you want performance its best to get a 10,000 rpm HD as your main drive and i guess you can raid that in with another one. but "I" don't exactly "know"

what's your budget and are youe looking for a full setup including a monaitor, mouse, etc or just just the comp? i recently put together a wishlist for a friend you could possibly use as a guide if you want.

from what i've heard, the x2 processors are useless for gaming becasue no games and most programs dont take advantage of it.

Its good to get SLi ready because if you wana upgade you can get another of the same card or just a new card.

2 seperate HD's should give you more performance, you could also make one just for windows but i donno much about the different setups.

thanks rep.

my budget is between $500-$1300 for full setup. I'd like to stay around $1200 if possible.

Sweet, thanks!

A buddy of mine is going to teach me the art of OverClocking (Processor/video card/RAM). I know a little now, he's going to "open up a whole new world to me" he says . Thats why I went with a lower-end processor. I guess they have the potential to go very very far/fast.

I've been working on this build, perfecting it, contemplating it, and slaving over thinking about it for going on SIX months now. So dont tell me to change it to anything LOL (unless its something i really really need to know).

Mujo if I were you I would save afew bucks and get the Logitech MX 1000 Laser mouse. I have one, and it's the best mouse I have ever used.

It also comes with it own charger, and the battery life is excellent. So I think it is a much better value for your money

My mx1000 just recently decided to act up or I would have been singing it's praises... now when I try to aim, my mouse will jump all over the screen, making it impossible to aim at anything but the sky... sucks. and it seems to be a common issue, so I got the mx518 instead, though wired, it's all good.

and, may I mention a Raptor hd? that's those 10,000rpms gizzy was talking bout.

edit: and while I'm thinking about it, on break last night, I was browsing this month's PC Gamer magazine, and it tells you how to build a Dream gaming comp for under 1,500, and things you could tweak to switch it. has step by step instructions for building it too - wish I had more time on my break to continue looking at it, was looking good

second edit: might want to check out some forums dedicated to pc gaming too to see what people are doing, here's one
