Hey everyone, I was wondering if anybody could help me. I am getting 30-35 fps in source constantly. I have the newest ati driver. I have tried everything, turning everything down, everything turned up and everything inbetween. My darn card won't do better than 35 fps. Here are my specs:

P4 @ 2.4
2 Gigs Kinston Ram
Ati 9800 Pro
2-250 gig hard drives. (not running an array)

Any suggestions?

P.s..turning off hdr dosn't do crap!

I had the exact same problem first time around....then it straightened up after the first update...I'm hanging around 50 on the low end about 90-100 on the high end averaging out around a steady 70.

I have everything turned up on high and everything on.

There is a site that has a few config tweaks already for Source that may help you.

Type net_graph 3 in your console and it will bring up a graph in your bottom right hand corner of your screen.

your system specs are fine except for one thing karl.

You need a new processor. At least a 3000 GHz Pentium or a 3500+ Athlon 64 is needed to play without lag.

They arent that expensive, they'll cost you around 100 bucks, but you'll have to upgrade your motherboard in order to get em.

My personal suggestion is an Athlon 64, they are really quite nice.

Your poll does not go low enough in FPS for me to vote.

a 3000 ghz processor?!?!?! wowie! you must have a water colled system to keep something that fast from burning up.

but after looking around if you want an amd 3500+ chip it'll cost more like 150-200 not 100 unless i'm mlooking in all the wrong places.

Yeah, at least...

I get around 30-80 FPS. It stays at around 50 FPS in normal conditions.

Here are my current specs:
2.99 GHz P4 HT
512 Mb RAM
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro

Most settings were set to medium on 1280x1024 with no HDR. I'm going to upgrade the motherboard and add 1024 Mb of RAM and see if it makes a difference.

try this

rate 25000
cl_updaterate 20
cl_cmdrate 30
showfps 1
showhitlocation 1

turn sound to medium quality (for slower cpu ram and non sd aud cards)

worst come to worse add this to the autoexec.cfg -dxlevel80 and do that at the end...your graphics should look the same but you could get a 30 fps boost on some systems...this makes the game run in dx8.0 instead of the more advanced dx9.0 or 9.1

also to improve lag reduction if needed turn off voice com..on this update it can cause a tremendous (40+) chunk of choke which will make the lag seem huge

I tried this a few days ago and yes it has helped a bit for FPS, makes it somewhat playable and with some other tweeks have got the choke down to a dull roar. My biggest issue now is ping don;t know why but it has increased to an avg of 150 and when one was non source it avg around 80-90 for the most part. When I ping the server it shows ok nothing that high. No firewalls or any other programs running.

I hope that the tweaks do help. Some maps I spend most of it at 50 but others i run at 140...

i think a lot of it right now is poor compling of the map that puts more textures in a area than should be

I think you're shooting just a tad too high with that suggestion.
