With amazing graphics and much tighter sound I was wondering if I'm the only one that gets the feeling that the maps are actually smaller?

I'm sure it's a "feel" thing because the game just seems like it much more close quarters than before...it gives it an edge that regular DoD just didn't have..

It also seems a lot more gritty and warlike, which I find interesting considering that DoD did the same thing for me, but now I see what DoD was missing in terms of "feel"

So I posted this just in hopes of getting others opinions of the more aesthetic sides of the game..

There's plenty of threads already about the tweaking and overall opinions, but what do you think about the over effect of the game?

I think I can agree with that to some extent. I like the new source version, however it just seems so tight that as soon as I pop around a corner, ive got about half a second to see and kill my enemy or im dead, half the time I never even see who shot me.

Yeah it seems as they cut alot of the maps in half. The other thing I noticed is the faces they look like someone took a picture and glued it to a balloon. You would think they would have tried to somewhat even out the FPS through out the map. Instead you jump from 25-150 that just seems to be to much of variable to me. When I join I'm looking at 477 FPS to drop from that to 25 is amazing .

Another thing why is stopsound and particlefx_0 concidered a cheat The particlefx would help out alot of people on there FPS I'm sure there are 1000's of people out there that even start to run this game do to 1-10 FPS .

I wasn't aware that particlefx was even an option anymore..I thought it was a forced setting and detail was the only thing you could change on it..

hmmm...this is going to take some serious tweaking on our part and some serious patching, methinks, on valve's part to get this running right.

Seems awfully buggy to have been tested for so long.....

The more I play it the more I like it.
But I just don’t like the player models. Something about them doesn’t look right.
And it seems like you have to use a whole clip to kill someone.
Don’t like not having a knife with my Thompson either. Every time I go to stab someone my smoke grenade comes out. You can’t stab with a smoke grenade.
Would like to turn my practical effects down too.
The voice com seems muffled too

Overall, I like it. There are a few things I would've made different(like giving rifle class a pistol for starters) but I do like some of the map changes that eliminated stalemate camping(opening up the back of church on anzio makes snipers & mgs watch thier backs and getting rid of the bunker on donner makes a huge difference)

oh yeah, one big positive --> Support class has 2 nades & alternate fire!

Squirrel - if you go to this link >>Source Custom Files I believe they already have other skins people have submitted...

I agree too but its just gonna take time to get used to. Wouldn't it be funny as a +attack2 with a grenade you could hit someone with it? US gren you just palm it and smack someone with it. Ger you just grab the long handle and whack away.

I love it, my FPS stays 70-120 all the time regardless of whats going on unless the whole team is shooting rockets in front of me or something.

It is a lot smaller, I don't believe its just the feel, they probably took a foot from old DoD and counted it as 2 feet in this.

I noticed that the guns are a lot more powerful, you do have to remember that the hit boxes are different then DoD 1.3 and will take some time to get used to because I can get a 1-2 hit kill with a pistol now.

And has anyone else noticed that the .30 cal MG sounds really similar to the machine gun in Half life 2 that shoots the orb thing?

I was reading in the DOD forums that the models are bigger relative to objects. If you stand next to a chair the seat portion doesn't come up high enough. Effectively the layouts are familiar, but I agree the maps seem about 1/3 smaller.

Removing particle effects would allow you to effectiveley hack the smoke grenades, that is why I think they don't allow it to be changed.

I agree about voice com - too low relative to the other sounds and the com quallity (sampling rate) sux.

When TFC first came out, those playing Quake TF noticed the maps seemed smaller.. .Valve explained that the maps were of the same size, however the models were indeed bigger, thus giving that impression.

The smoke grenades are supposed to hide your movements. If someone could see through them with particle_fx 0... well, that would be cheating indeed, right?

What Squirrel said and yes I think the maps are smaller. I also think the Garand lost some accuracy somewhere but hey I'm still learnin'.
