Well, I am freakin out!

I just installed Windows 2000, and now when I try to start a game of TFC, I can play for about 2 minutes or so, and then my comp freezes up. And when i say freeze, I mean, sound skipping, ctl+alt+del doesn't work, game FROZEN. The only way to get out is to use the hard reset button on my comp.

I installed the latest driver for my Riva TNT 2 32 MB video card, and before I installed 2k, I had win 98 and all was fine.

Any help is greatly appreciated because I am addicted TFC, and I don't know how long I can take it

Are you on crack!! How in the hell could you say 98 is better than 2000!! Sure, if you don't mind lots of crashes, go back to 98. If you want stability stick with 2000.

Just check with the manufacturer to see if they have W2k drivers. Most do by now.

They did, and I installed them...I know before I installed the latest driver, I got an error message about Open _gl, but the message didn't come up the next time

Which video mode are you using? OpenGL? Are you running the default driver, the other one. You might also try a different window size, or Direct3D. I had some problems with running TFC on ME and 2000 (dual boot), but I found that changing the video settings stopped the instant crashing. But sadly, I get the best response for TFC while in ME...

I initially had troubles with win2k, but after some flahses to the BIOS and a motherboard upgrade - win2k has yet to cause problems.

So - update every driver on your computer that you can think of: motherboard, video, sound, etc. Also - be sure to get all the MS service packs for win2k.

Not on crack at all! I have had nothing but bad luck with every OS except for Win98SE. It is Stable with allot less lockups. Who needs all that fancy crap when the drivers in WinMe and up are the same as the ones that came with 98SE?

The only difference is WinMe is shipped with more driver support on the CD covering more hardware is all. Win 2000 is nothing but a fix for WinMe adding yet more drivers covering the latest Hardware out and so on. Why go crazy when the main purpose of your pc is gaming? New isn't always better.... you want a different OS try Redhats Linux.

Just like NT4.0, I have found that Win200 is the best to run Half-Life or any game that is not specific to Win98. If you are having problems then it is either a bad install or adriver problem or a bigger issue that has nothing to do with TFC.

See, I am not blaming the OS, or anything else, i am just at a loss.

Like I said, I installed the latest Video Card Drivers, and still no luck. I am running half-life at 1024x768 with open_gl, and like I said, it ran fine with win 98

I dunno if installing motherboard drivers is an option.

WinMe is a far cry from W2K. W2K is NOT an upgrade from WinMe. XP is the latest upgrade to from Me/98. W2K is an upgrade from NT.

No comment on XP since I have yet to try it.I have not seen any difference in them Robert
but then again these were Betas from a lab at IBM which were about as near as complete as your going to get to the finished product.

I just don't see what you see different with Microsofts OS's Win98,SE,ME. I should not of included 2000 and NT as a comparison to my point. your right! XP I still have not messed with yet,and might not atleast for another 6months anyway.

Actually, XP is based on the NT kernel and is the latest upgrade to NT/2000. (The 9x/ME family is no more.)

Windows 98 second edition. I have had it for 2 years. It has only crashed twice, and each time was because of my own personal stupidity .

Windows 98 se has like no bugs at all. It's pretty damn good.
