So, i move 2 blocks away, get my internet transferred over and now there is at least a 130 millisecond delay in the line at all times.
Always seems to be at one router.. Yet they say they ping my ip and its at 72 ms.. So they say its gotta be my nic. Yet i ping my nic and delay is less than 10 ms. I tell the tech rep, ping this router 12.248.72.230, comes back at 135 ms.

ComCrap Tech support says: "Under 200 ms delay is normal".

Finally got them to send a tech on Tuesday to test the line

Now i dont know about you but to me at work that would be unacceptable. Heck i cant even attempt to play TFC Or DOD anymore.
So you wont be seeing me anytime soon.

Anybody else have issues with comcast? Looks like i will need another ISP soon. Wide Open West Here i come!!!

These two are right before i called them: (of course cleared up a bit after I talked to the tech)
Take a look at these and let me know what you think...

I've been using ComCast for almost 3 years now and I haven't had alot of trouble with them. Pings have always been decent.

Does your ping get better during low use times? like after midnight? It looks like they've got to many people on that node.

Here's my traceroute to TV1.

for those that might have gotten this email or not this is what i ahve received for attbi / comcast...

As we have explained in previous emails, Comcast wants to help make your transition from AT&T Broadband Internet to Comcast High-Speed Internet as easy as possible.
The process is easy as 1-2-3. If you do not choose to use our easy Transition Wizard
by June 30, 2003, you will not be able to take advantage of attbi.com e-mail forwarding, but you will still have high-speed Internet access. If you have already downloaded the Transition Wizard, the only thing you need to do is restart your computer after June 30. We're making sure you get this message again because we are not able to tell whether individual customers have downloaded the Transition Wizard and we don't want you to experience any inconvenience.

If you have not already made the transition, simply:

1.
Go to http://connect.comcast.net to find the Transition Wizard located in the center of the page.

2.
Download and INSTALL the Transition Wizard and follow the on-screen instructions.

3.
On or after June 30, restart your computer to begin the second part of the transition automatically.

If you have questions, we'll be available through the Connection Center, e-mail and chat to help in any way we can. For the most current information on the transition or to manually change your service configurations rather than use the automatic software, visit http://connect.comcast.net. Should you have additional questions call us at 1-888-262-6300.

We look forward to serving your high-speed Internet needs.

Sincerely,

Comcast

this is only an email i received 2 times and things are slowly switching over in july or maybe june.. for those on attbi.com this is what i received and i am sharing it with everybody here at the ville... hopefully my ping improves on the west coast for this .. anyway;s these are just my thooughts and input on this.. hope this helpps with some questions that people would have

well I had problems with AT&T. The cable in my area is to old for internet, nobody is remotely trying to replace to the customers in the area. I use to not have problems when I lived at another place. But Comcast came in and made matters worse. Not only do I have crappy old cable, but now I have a provided with a seriously bad customer support and seriously bad attitude. So since SBC has finally gotten their DSL stuff right I will be switching.

My cable currently bounces up and down at 2-3 hours at a time and Comcast can't figure it out.

It seems to be half way decent during the day, before 3:00. But i seldom ever get home before then. Even then delay sits right about 78-100 ms. After 3 it just gets intolerable/unusable. Happend right after i moved. Heck i ping 100 on tv1 now, and im only 10 miles away, goodbye 1337 ping..

Anything i should make the tech aware of?

Its just odd, i never had this problem at my old place 2 blocks away.

This is the route from my house in Henderson NV to the Ville.org which is located in Henderson NV
| Los Angeles, CA, USA | -08:00 | 15 | x- | 67.72.116.0 |
| Los Angeles, CA, USA | -08:00 | 15 | x- | 209.247.9.0 | | San Jose, CA, USA | -08:00 | 24 | x-- | 209.247.9.0 |
| San Jose, CA, USA | -08:00 | 23 | x- | 64.159.2.0 |
| Palo Alto, CA, USA | -08:00 | 25 | -x- | 209.244.3.0 |
| San Jose, CA, USA | -08:00 | 23 | x-- | 209.245.146.0 | | Los Angeles, CA, USA | -08:00 | 34 | -x-- | 207.173.114.0 |
| Los Angeles, CA, USA | -08:00 | 34 | x | 208.186.20.0 |

This has been shortened a bit but it takes 20 hops to reach the server which is right around the corner. It also takes me 20 hops to reach TV1 as well which is located in Chicago. Talk about some f'd up routing!! Just a thought but maybe moving those couple of blocks puts you onto a diferent node.

I have Cox Cable and have had issues in the past but nothing like what's going on with Comcast from what it sounds like. The outages I have seem to be upgrading lines, at least from what I'm told.

Well, you can try escalating the call. My standard tech call to Charter goes something like this:

  1. Talk to minimum-wage earning call center goober and listen to his canned answers that totally do not apply to my problem.

  2. Demonstrate to goober that you know he is an idiot. Sometimes achieved by making up acronyms and technical jargon, especially to amuse others in the room.

  3. Request to escalate the call to the next level of (alleged) competance.

  4. Repeat as necessary until you talk to someone who understands the issue. They won't be able to give you instant help 90% of the time, but at least you'll come away with the confidence that someone, somewhere knows what they are talking about.

  5. Call regular customer service and complain until they give you free stuff.

Try using an on-line speed test such as the one found in the tool section of www.dslreports.com. Get a base-line and record during different times...make notes of when you think the connection is good and when you believe you are having issues. You can also compare your rates to others who use the same company....this is a little more compelling than ping stats.

Use this data when communicating with your isp. There may be many factors as to why your connection isn't up to snuff...including what was said earlier about the possibility that they have way over subscribed your area.

If they just don't fix it for you....try another service. No since paying all those bucks if you can't do what you want with it.

Make em aware that you know peeps that like to kill other peeps and that it would be best that they get it right. You dont have to mention that its ingame playing TFC but if the question is asked thats always your scapegoat.

Where exactly in Chicago are you at? im at Ashland and Fullerton (roughly) and my Comcast cable seems to be ok for the most part. However I have noticed that sometimes my ping will shoot up to 500-700 for a period of a few minutes for no appearent reason, but this only just started to happen and my PC needs to be rebuilt anyways so im not sure I just dont have a case of pissy spyware or something jamming me up.

I'm in Atlanta and have had AT&T / Comcast for the last year. It was fine from April (2002) when I had it installed through November or so. Then I started having massive latency problems (200-500ms to ANYWHERE) right before Thanksgiving. This continued for about a month and one day magically disappeared. Good old AT&T didn't even have the courtesy to notify me when my trouble tickets were closed. So it's been fine since then until last Friday.. We started having some good storms here and since then I have been getting a lot of packet loss with any sort of sustained throughput. If my connection is idle then I don't get much loss, but as soon as I start downloading or have a couple connections going at once (or join a game), I'll get lots of loss and sometimes my cable modem will actually reset itself. I have another ticket open with them but I don't have much confidence that they'll actually notify me when or if it gets fixed.. Hmm.

I am using SBC DSL over in Ft Worth and it works well most of the time. It has never been down for an extended period of time since I got it in January.

Good Luck Pornstar.
