It isn't hard at all. It's just putting pieces together. You want parts that work well together though. That's the only advice this newb can give.

Your mobo will generally have these spots marked.. the LED's.. sometimes it's tuff to tell.

All your power cables will be bundled and you unbundle them and plug them into the spots on the mobo for say.. Power LED.. etc. Your motherboard should come w/ a owner's manual w/ a picture too.

It's not too hard particularly if you've already put devices such as CD-rom's into your old PC.. you obviously have a working knowledge of the basics at least.

When you buy a motherboard. In the manual there will be a diagram and somtimes right on the board it shows where to put all the led's and switches for those wires.

Cobra,

Remember this if nothing else. DO YOUR HOMEWORK. =)

Buying parts for a computer is easily done over the internet these days. The main things you need to remember is to get all parts from a reputable dealer, and make sure they are all compatible with each other. A warrantee is a good idea also.

i.e. Don't buy a slot 1 motherboard and a socket 7 processor.

Also look hard at the type of ram you need. If you want a fast system then buy a DDR compatible motherboard and DDR ram. Pricing of ram right now is real resonable and the cost difference is more than worth it.

From personal experience I suggest getting a hard drive as big as you can afford. There is never enough room after about a month of downloading.

Anything else is basically common computer sense. If you need help deciding exactly what you need, then just PM me. I will do my best to help you choose components that you will be happy owning.

I know I left out some stuff. But that is part of the learning curve. The deeper you get the more questions you will have. Hopefully we can answer them for you and then be sorry we helped. Sorry you say? Yeah, sorry you are kicking our ass because of your nice fast, smooth system we helped you get started. hehe.

When you get a parts list semi-finalized post it on here and I'll post my suggestions about it.
