new Hard drives

So i'm RMA'ing my old Seagates, apparently there was a bad batch...
I'm doing advance shipment so i get the drives in a few days, and have some time to copy data over to the new drives. anyone know of a special way of doing this?

You can backup your steam games (if you ordered them online) through steam onto CDs or DVDs or whatever. That saves a lot of time when reinstalling steam. I have a 40GB usb harddrive that I use for backups which comes in handy bigtime. If you have another computer on your network then Id use that to backup other things onto. I guess burning it all to DVDs would also work. I like to download the installers for programs like MSN or Antispyware or Firefox or Drivers and that saves a ton of time. I'm used to having to reformat cuz I always eff something up.

PS Dont forget to backup your savedgame files from your games!! I hate starting from scratch!

I guess you could just install the new drives and then install the broken ones as secondaries and you can transfer your files between drives. I've never attempted anything like that before, though.

IF you want to copy them in there entirety including boot sectors and windows so you can plug in the new drive and go, you need a hard drive ghost software.

CHeck to see if segate has one for free. WD does for their drives on their website. Worst comes to worst find a free trianl of norton ghost.

this is the not the easiest way out, but it is the safest:

restart from scratch! atleast you'll be sure everything is back in exellent condition. it might seem like a burden now, but it will pay of afterwards.

once you have reinstalled xp and the drivers, then take an image with norton ghost and store it somewhere. next time you need/want to reformat you'll have a clean copy in handy.

You can clone your hard drive to a raid 0 set up...

with norton ghost? I didnt know that. So you're saying i can take a JBOD setup (2 80 GB) and clone it to a RAID 0 160 GB setup?

seagate drives come with a driver disk that has a utility that does the copying. I've only ran into a few programs that are screwed from it. Acdsee, and quicktime to be exact. Just reinstalled them and good to go.
