so as i was at a store trying to get my phone fixed ( they gave me a new one, phew!) i saw a box of pci boards in a box. not in too bad of shape. and a sign that said $5 each there were some basic video cards and 56k modems and such in there but i saw 2 of this one that looked like it might actually be a deal so i snagged one and paid my $5 for it ( but i put it on my card as credit so they get way less than the $5 i paid, HA!) so anyways i was wondering if this card was worth it for $5... ? its most definately gonna be better than the one i have in now which is the one that came with my dell 4-5 or so years ago.

( i havne't put it in yet to actually hear a differnece i'm waiting to make sure i can find all the drivers and such online first, and to find a time when i'm not gonna be lazy)

IF the card works.. good deal.

My experience in 'grab bag' items sitting in open boxes, esp. circuit boards, is 'don't bother'. Reason being that a good deal of items like that have sensitive components (like c-mos for instance) that shouldn't be man-handled or tossed into an open box without some static protection. Even if the boards do function, a lot of times it's with dimished capacity and can cause unknown headaches later. I've been to computer swap meets and seldom picked up something that 'works like new'

You will also need the driver install disk that came with the sound card if you want it to function properly.

As like everything else I state.. It's my opinion.

It's a bit old and like Bull said you'd need the drivers, but if it works, then I suppose you lucked out from most of those kinds of deals.

did i forget to mention it was $5, works, was $5 and no matter how old it is its better than the original creative card that came with my computer when it was still a Dell... and as for the drivers. windows did it automatically once i put the card in. so its all good.
